TALIAFERRO MEMORIAL BUILDING
256 EAST CHURCH STREET
DATE: 1923-1924
ARCHITECTS:  Marsh & Saxelbye
BUILDERS: Gerbrich & Haugard

In 1923 Senator James P. Taliaferro donated the funds to build this Sunday School building for St. John's Episcopal Cathedral, in memory of his wife.  Architects Marsh & Saxelbye designed the building to be compatible with the English and Gothic themes of the older St. John's Episcopal sanctuary.  It has Celtic crosses on the gables, buttresses, Tudor arches, and window tracery, and is constructed of Indiana limestone.  It is an excellent design in its own right, as well as a fine complementary structure to the main church building.
