With its navy bases, Jacksonville certainly did its part during World War II. The above postcard probably dates from that conflict. It depicts navy bombers cruising over the city and the St. Johns River. Today, the US Navy is Jax's largest employer.
Notice the black railroad bridge, which is in the open position. This span is still in use downtown. The postcard came from the Florida Collection at the Main Public Library in Jacksonville.
