  • CENSUSFINDER.COM -- Another excellent source for online Florida censuses, as well as for censuses for other states.

  • AFRICAN AMERICAN CENSUSES -- Miscellaneous slave schedules & other federal censuses for Florida.  Furnished by Afrigeneas.com.  NOTE:  Slave schedules are censuses, but they give the names of the owners, not the slaves.  The slaves are not identified by name.  The info for each slave usually included the person's age and sex, as well as an indication of whether he or she were "black" or "mulatto" (of mixed ancestry).

  • 1880 CENSUS -- The 1880 census is free and online!  Provided by the Mormon Church.
     

  • 1900 CENSUS COLLECTION -- A website that offers the entire census from the year 1900.  Can search by head of household.  Is a pay website from Family Tree Maker.

  • 1920 CENSUS -- Ancestry.com states that it is the only website "to see and search 1920 U.S. Census images and indexes from all 50 states." Have to pay to access all of the records in this site.

  • 1930 CENSUS -- The 1930 census was released in 2002, so take a look at this informative article, "The 1930 Federal Census: What to Expect."  Written by William Dollarhide, in Genealogy Bulletin.  

  • 1930 CENSUS -- Lots of info about this census.  Provided by the National Archives.

  • 1930 CENSUS -- Ancestry.com maintains that it is working to post all of the 1930 census online by the end of 2002.  Census will be searchable by name.  Must pay to access all of the records at Ancestry.com.

  • ANCESTRY.COM -- One of the biggest online databases of names for genealogy research.  Is a pay site.

  • FAMILY SEARCH DATABASES -- A free, must-visit site.  Contains hundreds of millions of names.  Maintained by the Mormon Church.  

  • GENDEX -- Appears to be both a pay & a free website.  According to Gendex, its website "indexes thousands of World Wide Web databases containing genealogical data for over twenty million individuals, and gives you the ability to locate and view data of interest to you on any of these databases, without having to go and visit each of the databases separately."

  • GENEXCHANGE -- According to  this Web site, "The GenExchangeTM is the oldest of the now popular data-based genealogy web sites, forging new territory and show casing emerging technologies in 1996 to become the third largest non-commercial genealogy project on the internet today."

  • ROOTSWEB.COM -- According to this Web site, it is the "Oldest & Largest Free Genealogy Site, Supported by Ancestry.com"

  • SOCIAL SECURITY DEATH INDEX -- Search screen provide by Rootsweb.com.  BACKGROUND INFO:  This database gives brief information about the individuals in it.  Using this info, you may also be able to order a copy of a person's original Social Security application form.  You don't need a Social Security number to search this database.  TIME COVERED: Mostly from 1962 onward.  However, a very small percentage of the data does date from 1937 through 1961.  NUMBER OF DEATHS: The Social Security Death Index does not list all the deaths that have occurred in the US during the time it covers.  WHO PROVIDES THIS SITE:  This particular search site is provided by RootsWeb.com.
